Cyril defends son’s business deal

- Eric Naki

One of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s sons has been found to have done business with state-linked service provider, Bosasa, which is notorious for giving “extra service” to senior ANC officials to grease their palms.

But the president says he believes all was above board with the deal, and said he would personally make sure his son faces the music if any malfeasance is uncovered.

This came in response to a parliamentary oral question from Democratic Alliance leader, Mmusi Maimane, who produced what he said was proof that Bosasa paid an amount of R500 000 into a trust account named EFG2, owned by Andile Ramaphosa, the president’s son, on October 18, 2017.

It was not clear what the payment was for, but Ramaphosa confirmed the payment, which he said was for advisory services his son had provided to Bosasa.

“He [Andile] is running a clear and honest business providing an advisory service. He is trained in business science as a consultant. If there is any illegality and corruption in the way that he dealt with the matter, I will be the firstto make sure that he becomes accountable,” said Ramaphosa.
