Gigaba’s track record is abysmal

-

It is widely known that Malusi Gigaba, pictured, lied under oath and that he played a pivotal role in enabling state capture, but his poor track record is often understated and should be enough for him to go.

During his tenure as minister of public enterprises, he appointed almost all the board members that turned out to be Gupta puppets. Gigaba claims that he was not aware of this at the time. Regardless, his decision is still bleeding the South African economy.

At home affairs, Gigaba made changes to the visa regime that saw the tourism sector become far weaker than those of our peers. This reduced job creation potential. The minister denied the effect by saying the sector is still growing, however sector specialists easily corrected his naivety. The changes caused the sector to slow down, growing at almost half the pace it did before.

His tenure as minister of finance, could not have gone worse. The appointment itself had most worried due to his extraordinary poor performance in his previous positions. National Treasury officials often referred to him in private as “The Clown”. He was the minister that led South Africa into junk status.

Also, scandals are abundant when it comes to Gigaba.
