Still producing great poets in SA

South Africa’s literary landscape is influenced by its social and political evolution, resulting in poetry such as that of Zakes Mda, Ingrid de Kok, Phillippa Yaa de Villiers and Lebogang Mashile.

Our storytelling style continues to dominate the world stage, as was the case at the Coupe d’Afrique de Slam Poesie (Africa Cup of Slam Poetry) 2018, held in Chad this past weekend.

Thuthukani Myeza, pictured, a Johannesburg-born poet, rapper and songwriter, took second place. Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa took to social media to congratulate him. Senegal was this year’s champ. – Citizen reporter
