Another Soweto derby loss for Chiefs

-

Kaizer Chiefs MultiChoice Diski Challenge coach Arthur Zwane lamented his side’s poor finishing in their 1-0 loss to Orlando Pirates in a Soweto derby at the Vosloorus Stadium on Sunday.

Pirates took an early leas through Lehlohonolo Sepeng’s header, with only two minutes on the clock. The young Amakhosi side didn’t panic as they produced some beautiful football, creating plenty of goalscoring opportunities which went to waste.

This was Chiefs’ second successive loss after they ran riot to inflict a 10-0 hammering on Chippa United. The defeat sees Chiefs drop to 11th in the standings with nine points after eight games, while the Buccaneers registered their second win this campaign, which put them in 13th place with eight points from the same number of games.

“I don’t know where to start… you know our story, I don’t know whether this is bad luck or what and it is annoying me as a coach because we are doing everything right, but is all goes down to one thing, poor finishing in front of goal,” said Zwane.

“There was a time in the game where in a space of three minutes we created about five clearcut chances but we didn’t take even one. It was the same against Bidvest Wits, but we got to beat Chippa 10-0. There is no team in this league that creates as many chances as Kaizer Chiefs, but we just don’t bury them.”

Elsewhere, Polokwane City put themselves in the race for the MDC title when they beat Baroka FC 2-1 in the Limpopo derby. Rise and Shine are now on 16 points, two points behind league leaders Cape Town City who are on 19 points.

Cape Town City didn’t have such a successful weekend as they were held to a goalless draw by Chippa United.
