Sseafarer and National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) national spokesperson Craig Lambinon has been “knighted” by the French government.

He received the award this week from the French ambassador, Christophe Farnaud, during a ceremony aboard the French Surveillance Frigate, Floreal.

Lambinon, who has worked for the NSRI for the past 25 years, was named a Knight in the Order of Maritime Merit.

The NSRI said the nomination was in recognition of his work and it lauded the active role he has played in the welfare of many French citizens who have been rescued and assisted while visiting South Africa.

The award also recognised Lambinon’s commitment towards water safety and the prevention of accidents at sea.

In addition to keeping the media updated during search and rescue operations, Lambinon provides support to NSRI rescue crew and the distressed families awaiting news.

NSRI acting CEO Mark Hughes said Lambinon was a unique individual who managed to balance his technical knowledge and efficiency with sincere compassion.

“He frequently works on multiple rescues at any one time and he never seems to sleep. Craig is a deserving recipient of this honour,” said Hughes.

Lambinon said: “It’s truly an honour, not only for the work I’ve done in the past 25 years but the work the NSRI has done on a whole and our volunteers.” – ANA

The Libya Observer reported that the Sudanese Centre for Press Services quoted a dissident leader, Ibrahim Al Siddiq, who said the execution orders were carried out on the order of the head of JEM, Gibril Ibrahim.

Ibrahim had objected to the distribution of the lion’s share of money made from the mercenary work going to the executed men.

Seven months ago, seven leaders from JEM had been prosecuted by the organisation as conflict in the movement over leadership policies spiralled out of control.
