Brown joins top list including David Beckham, Orlando Bloom, Jackie Chan, Shakira.

If you’ve watched the Netflix science fiction drama Stranger Things, then you would know who Millie Bobby Brown is. Brown’s unforgettable role as Eleven in the series catapulted her to global fame and also earned her a Primetime Emmy nomination for outstanding supporting actress in a drama series.

She is the youngest person to feature on Time magazine’s 100 most influential people on the planet – and is now also the youngest goodwill ambassador to ever be appointed by the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef).

Her appointment was made on World Children’s Day – Tuesday this week – which highlights the plight of children and mobilises prominent figures to raise the visibility of the issues and help alleviate them.

Brown said the UN role is a dream come true and a huge honour to join an already impressive list of people who have supported Unicef over the years.

“I am looking forward to meeting as many children and young people as I can, hearing their stories, and speaking out on their behalf,” said the 14-year-old.

Driven by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the day is celebrated to raise awareness and funds for the millions of children who are unschooled, unprotected and uprooted. Also, health remains top of the agenda.

This is another reason why Brown’s UN appointment makes sense, having completely lost hearing in one ear.

Brown, an avid supporter of Unicef since 2016, will join a list of goodwill ambassadors that include, David Beckham, Orlando Bloom, Jackie Chan, Priyanka Chopra, Liam Neeson and Shakira. –
