Dan’s worry: a lack of goals

A lack of goals has been Daniel Malesela’s Achilles heel since he started coaching and the problem has seen his teams play some attractive football but failing to make it count.

This problem saw him fired at Chippa United earlier this season but it has followed him to National First Division side TS Galaxy where he has continuously rued missed chances since taking over almost two months ago.

Malesela said he used the recent Fifa break to work solving this problem which has stalled the Rockets who enjoy the most support of all NFD teams as their home stadium is almost always packed to capacity – and the team complement it with some good football.

“The issue of goals is something we are trying to address,” he said. “You cannot be completely sure you have dealt with the problem until you see the goals in serious matches,” he added.

“The break gave us a good chance to try different people in different places. We also did some tactical work and it was good for us but that will be determined by how we fare in the next game.

“We tested ourselves against some credible opponents, not to say teams in the NFD are not credible, but when you get to the Premiership the standard is higher. It was good,” said Malesela.

Malesela will this afternoon hope that the hard work they put in at training comes to fruition when they meet Mbombela United in a Mpumalanga derby at Kanyamazane Stadium outside Nelspruit.
