Neutral in the middle
COLOUR FORECAST: EXPECT MORE CONNECTION TO BALANCE NEXT YEAR
The cornerstone of interior design in 2019.
Forget the Cricket and Rugby World Cups taking place next year – 2019 is all about the Plascon Neutral of the Year named Ravine.
The colour, a mix between traditional beige and grey, is set to be the cornerstone of interior design next year. Ravine has a soothing undertone, that matches classical homes, as well as twisting to ultra modern design ideas.
Colour expert Claire Bond says: “Ravine continues to be a warm go-to natural as it provides a neutral canvas making it a safe option when detail needs to be added, be it a coloured painted feature wall, curtaining, flooring or upholstery.”
It’s the word safe that really exemplifies Ravine for the times. As the rand is facing trying times, decorating homes have become a luxury. With a neutral colour like Ravine it becomes obvious why you’d want to choose it – it matches well with an array of colours, textures and homes regardless of era or style.
The colour also makes sense when placing it next to the Trends Forecast from Plascon in 2019. While this year featured psycho-tropical, jewel tones and the idea of finding beauty in the unfinished, next year is more connected to balance.
The Plascon 2019 Colour Forecast identified cocooning, mindfulness and individualisation as some of the trend drivers compelling people to transform their homes into personal sanctuaries away from busyness.
“The concept of luxury has taken a new direction with the new interpretation extending to simple joys like reading a book, taking a bath or enjoying a long lazy Sunday lunch with family and friends,” says Bond.
This year, many of the trends moved toward nature, or our interconnections with it, so a natural transition is turning focus to ourselves.
Each year Plascon decodes current social and lifestyle insights into projected colour, décor and design trends.
Plascon’s Head of Decorative Marketing, Katlego Kondlo says: “Our 2019 Colour Forecast speaks to current global societal needs. This year reveals six social moods from which we have formulated four unique colour stories that reflect them.”
This year’s trend drivers are centred around cacooning, urbanisation, individualisation, mindfulness and global connection.
