Reward offered for thieves’ arrest
DOCTORS: TWICE TARGETED BY GANG IN LIMPOPO
A case of attempted murder is being investigated after one victim was shot.
The Police in Limpopo are offering a reward of up to R100 000 for information that leads to the arrest and subsequent conviction of the attackers responsible for attempted murder and house robberies at Letaba and Lebowakgomo hospitals.
The two incidents took place in Limpopo on Thursday morning and Saturday respectively.
On Thursday at about 3.15am, five suspects attacked doctors in their residences at Letaba Hospital outside Tzaneen. The suspects robbed the doctors of an unknown amount of cash, cellphones, TV sets and laptops.
One of the doctors was shot and injured, while the other was struck with a blunt object. Both have been admitted to hospitals in Limpopo where it is reported they are recuperating.
In a similar incident, a group of about seven suspects attacked doctors at their residence in the Lebowakgomo Hospital on Saturday. The incident, according to a police statement, took place at midnight.
The suspects allegedly robbed doctors of money, cellphones and laptops.
Limpopo police said the suspects gained access into the premises of the hospitals by breaking the concrete pillars of a fence behind the doctors’ residence and proceeded to the houses, where they committed the crimes.
This led to the provincial commissioner for the police in Limpopo, Lieutenant-General Nneke Ledwaba, putting into action a 72-hour action plan to hunt down those responsible for the crimes.
“We have asked for the assistance of members of the community to work hand in glove with the police to bring the perpetrators to book,” said Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo. –
