Ndoro will be firing again
DA GAMA: STRIKER WANTS TO PUT WHAT HAPPENED AT AJAX BEHIND HIM
Owen da Gama is confident Tendai Ndoro can get back to his goal-grabbing best, as the Zimbabwean striker looks to open his Highland Park account this evening, when they host AmaZulu, with the Absa Premiership back in action following the international break.
Ndoro played his first game for Highlands Park in their 2-2 draw at Maritzburg United on November 9, following the saga at Ajax Cape Town which saw the Mother City team automatically relegated. Ajax had points deducted for fielding Ndoro after signing him in January, only for it to emerge that he was not eligible to play, having already taken the field for two other sides in the same season.
Ndoro has already proved himself a more than capable Premiership goalscorer, with his best season coming in 2016/17, when he netted 12 times in 30 league appearances for Orlando Pirates.
“Ndoro has been working very hard, his spirits are very high, he wants to put what happened at Ajax behind him and he sees this as a good opportunity to move forward,” said Da Gama yesterday.
“I think so (he can rediscover his best form), from what I have seen at training and in friendly matches he still knows how to score.”
The Highlands coach was appreciative of the international break, as it has given the Premiership new boys time to work on their top flight game.
“I always welcome international breaks … firstly, we don’t have a lot of international football, and secondly, it helps us fix up what we have been struggling with in the PSL, to go to another level and improve.”
Da Gama is also happy to be back home in Tembisa after three straight away games in all competitions. Highlands Park have done pretty well in front of their vociferous home fans, winning two and drawing one of their last three matches at Makhulong Stadium.
“It is nice to be back home, it is always an advantage to play at home, no doubt about it, you can even look at AmaZulu, they beat Cape Town City 2-0 at home, but then lost to them by three goals away. But they (AmaZulu) are a very good team, on their day they can play really well,” added Da Gama.
AmaZulu are desperate for points, however, having been docked six of them, which leaves them rock bottom of the table heading into this evening’s encounter.
