Hemero to follow up

- Ken Nicol

After generously only being raised three points by the handicappers following the expected comfortable last win, Hemero is again our top bet selection at Kenilworth today.

This Mike Robinson-trained Thomas Crown filly runs in Race 2, a FM 88 Handicap over 1600m, and while up in class, with joint bottom weight of 56kg can be expected to record a quick follow up.

Her fifth-place finish in the Grade 2 Diana Stakes prior to that suggests she is still well weighted, and is worth a decent bet.

The main opposition is at the top of the weights.

Ontenderhooks beat Love Supreme into second two runs back, and both seemed to find 2000m too far last time.

There should be little between them, and being relatively lightly raced both should have more to offer.

A very interesting runner who may well prove hard to beat is Vardy in Race 5 a MR 80 Handicap over 1400m.

Named after the speedy Leicester City striker, this Var gelding was no slouch himself when winning a strong looking Maiden Plate comfortably first time out.

Trainer Adam Marcus indicated afterwards he had been far from wound up for his debut.

He has a good draw as he goes around the turn for the first time, and with natural improvement may well prove difficult to deny.

Fellow three-year-old Rip It Up is also above average, and seems to be looking for this type of trip. He seems the primary threat. A good value bet is Township Melody in Race 6, the joint headlining race a FM 88 Handicap over 1200m.

She seems best over this distance, and should be right there in the finish with Bernard Fayd’Herbe up from champion trainer Justin Snaith’s stable.
