Almond Eye wins Japan Cup

-

Champion filly Almond Eye confirmed her status as one of the best racehorses in the world with a stunning victory in Sunday’s Group 1 Japan Cup (2400m) at Tokyo.

The daughter of Lord Kanaloa became only the second threeyear-old filly to win the Cup and, like Gentildonna in 2012, did so after securing Triple Crown glory with wins in the Shuka Sho, Oka Sho (Japanese 1000 Guineas) and the Yushun Himba (Japanese Oaks) earlier in the season.

Jockey Christophe Lemaire put Almond Eye in the box seat and she travelled comfortably throughout the race before taking the lead effortlessly from Kiseki inside the final 200m and racing away to win by two lengths in a lightning time of 2.20.06.
