Beyonce adds local element to remix

-

Musician Beyonce remixed her original version of her hit song Halo during her Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 performance last weekend at the FNB stadium.

She added a touch of SA by incorporating the Mzansi Youth Choir to sing along with her .

The Mzansi Youth Choir was established in July 2003 with the aim of affording talented, underprivileged teenagers and young adults (14-24) the opportunity to proficiently perform locally and abroad.

Their vision is also to package, repackage and create new African music.

The choir comprises 60 choristers from Soweto and other areas in and around Johannesburg.

The choir recently celebrated 15 years and is proud to have more than 645 children pass through its hands. Many have gone on to be professionals in their own right.

The Mzansi Youth Choir is widely regarded as the best show choir in the country.

Performance highlights include the One World Music Festival, M-Net Idols, Huisgenoot Skouspel, Starlight Classics, The Voice, the presidential inauguration, KKNK, the National Arts Festival, the South African Music Awards as well as performances with Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban and Celtic Women.

International highlights include performances in Canada (Canadian National Exhibition and Stratford Summer Music Festival), Denmark (AAVF, Europe’s largest contemporary vocal festival), England (Celtic Festival), Turkey, Scotland (Commonwealth Games, Mandela Day Celebrations) and Russia (cultural exchange – Russian and SA governments). – Citizen reporter
