The Free State MEC of Health, Montseng Tsiu, offered a message of condolences to the families of those who tragically lost their lives on the road in two separate accidents on Saturday.

The first accident, in which eight people died, was a head-on collision that occurred on the N1 South of Bloemfontein. The accident, involving a 22-seater minibus and a truck, also left multiple people with minor and critical injuries.

The second accident occurred on the R103, five kilometres from Villiers, and left four dead and one injured after a truck collided with a car.

“Accidents are one of the leading causes of death in our country and a major contributor to destabilising the coherence of our societal structures. The resilience of families is broken down because accidents often lead to orphanisation of children whose parents die and widowisation of men or women that die,” said Tsiu.

The MEC pleaded with road users to exercise caution when driving to avoid accidents. – OFM News
