ANC on the ball in Celtic conflict

-

It is quite amusing that the ANC leadership in the Free State should react with such alacrity to a protest from soccer fans when the organisation seems to turn a deaf ear to many of the problems in this country. Supporters of football club Bloemfontein Celtic certainly got the attention of the ANC after they threatened to boycott the upcoming elections unless the club is sold.

Irate fans believe the owner, Max Tshabalala, is running the famous club into the ground by not managing it properly. The group has already been boycotting matches to put pressure on Tshabalala to sell.

It is not surprising the ANC got excited – after all, football and politics are both beautiful games with huge monetary rewards for the participants, compared to those of ordinary folk.

Plus, it cannot be denied that the ANC has a powerful left wing, or that its tripartite alliance is full of talented strikers. Also, many of its foul-committing members have been brought up short by whistle-blowers – although they are yet to be red-carded or sent off.

The ANC talks all the time about levelling playing fields and goals – although most of those are the selfinflicted variety.
