The Citizen (Gauteng)

New Zealand Conference

-

The Kiwi conference promises to be the strongest yet again. Even the Blues, following a 14th place finish last season, could be stronger after naming new coach Leon Macdonald (right) and announcing the return of veteran centre Ma’a Nonu. While the Blues have recorded an impressive pre-season, the Crusaders will again be the team to beat, chasing a third straight and a record 10th overall title. The Hurricanes have a new coach in John Plumtree, who has taken over from Chris Boyd, while their biggest loss is All Black wing Julian Savea who has left for Toulon. The Highlanders (sixth), the Chiefs (fifth) and the Hurricanes (fourth) will, however, keep pushing the Crusaders. With four of the five Kiwi franchises qualifying for the playoffs last year, any team trying to wrestle the trophy away from New Zealand will have to produce something really special.

Likely winners: Crusaders
