Privatise SOEs while there is still time

-

Will government ever grow the cojones to get the country back on track, asks Tom Lambe.

Afriend of mine, who recently visited South Africa from Australia, asked me a difficult question after reading the newspapers and watching the TV news.

He asked if there is any part of South Africa which actually fulfils it’s assigned duties?

He noted that the police service is blighted with corruption, as are almost all other government organisations.

The NPA is all but disfunctional, which hopefully will now become functional under a new NDPP.

SAA and Eskom are so far in debt they will never be able to get themselves out, as with most SOEs.

The taxpayers cannot possibly fund all the massive amounts of money required to get the SOEs back on track.

Some SOEs need to be privatised while there is still something left to sell!

So many government ministers and heads of departments are tainted by state capture.

Organisations such as Steinhoff and VBS Bank are also being plundered.

A previous head of protocol admits to the Zondo commission that he lied to it. Is there any chance he will face the “supposed might” of the law?

Will the current president actually see the arrival of his “new dawn”, or is it merely another daydream?

Will the government ever grow the cojones to get South Africa back on track, and reintroduce respect for law and order, and the will to take legal action against those who have broken the law?
