Relocating is not easy for anyone, but when the opportunity came through for former Basetsana and Bantwana midfielder Puleng Moremi (right), she had to grab it with both hands.

For some time now, the Free State-born player has been based in Cape Town, and has played for Santos FC Ladies as well as University of Western Cape Ladies FC, where she has been studying Sports Administration.

The midfielder now finds herself in Johannesburg after acquiring an internship with a sports marketing agency working closely with Banyana Banyana sponsors Sasol.

Being in the internship programme, Moremi will be able to learn and gain experience in the sports marketing field. She says the moment she heard about the internship she just thought it was time for her to move and she is hoping to learn more about skills off the field.

“When I saw the post on the Sasol League Twitter page, I knew it was time for me to take the step. I have a degree in Administration and I’m currently studying Sports Development. I hope my qualifications will assist me in learning some skills off the field this time around,” said the former junior national team player.

With a rich football history, which started at an early age of 13 playing in the Sasol League in Welkom, to playing in the national Under-17 and Under-20 teams.

Her biggest wish now is to ensure she makes the cut to be part of the Banyana Banyana set-up one day while hopefully making a move overseas. One of her biggest dreams is to play in the US for Orlando Pride who play in the US National Women’s Soccer League and who boast players such as Brazil’s Marta and Camilla.

The club is also home to US Women’s World Cup-winning squad players like Alex Morgan, Alier Krieger and Ashlyn Harris.

But her biggest inspiration comes from women who strive to make the beautifu game grow in the country, listing the likes of Amanda Dlamini, Alice Khoza, Simphiwe Dludlu, and Cheryl Botes as her role models.

“These women inspire me because they showed us female footballers that there is so much you can do off the field, that we can also use football as a tool to explore new career paths.

“That is why for me this internship is important as I believe that it will help me reach my potential like my role models. I’m grateful to Sasol, Safa and Levergy for creating such a great opportunity,” she concluded.

Moremi began her internship at the beginning of this month and it will end in September next year.

And now with the internship secured, she will be hoping to join the University of Johannesburg Ladies team in order to continue playing football and keeping her dream to play for the senior national women’s team alive. as well as earning a move abroad.
