Strong entry for Charity Mile

STRENGTH: HIGHLY RATED SOQRAT, BUFFALO BILL CODY, ZILLZAAL AMONG NOMINATIONS

- Jack Milner

A total of 16 horses will go to the post for the R1-million race.

There have been 37 horses nominated for the R1million Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile over 1600m on the Standside track at Turffontein on Saturday 2 November and 15 of them come either from the yard of Sean Tarry and Mike de Kock.

Tarry has nominated nine horses including last year’s Summer Cup winner Tilbury Fort, recently gelded Zillzaal, Al Mutawakel, and talented filly In The Dance. His other entries are Pilau, Russian Beat, Social Order, Tierra Del Fuego and Wonderwall.

De Kock’s six are Barahin, Buffalo Bill Cody, Cascapedia, Noble Secret, Queen Supreme and Soqrat.

Al Mutawakel is a horse Tarry is very keen to run in this race. “I honestly believe he will be a massive runner if he gets in. I just hope the handicappers see it the same way,” said Tarry.

Many of the runners have the Summer Cup as their goals and will be preparing for that race at Turffontein on Saturday 30 November.

De Kock said after Soqrat he would run the Australian-bred son of Epaulette in the Charity Mile if he was alotted a reasonable weight.

Buffalo Bill Cody, if he runs, will hopefully be able to put his Joburg Spring Challenge behind him and that would make him a lively contender for the race.

Other interesting entries include Camphoratus from the Robbie and Shannon Hill stable, Approach Control from the Candice Dawson yard and Geoff Woodrufftrained Zouaves.

Supplementary entries close at 11am tomorrow after which the weights will be announced. Declarations close at 11am on Tuesday 22 October and the draws and final field will be announced on Wednesday 23 October.

Only 16 horses will run and there will be three reserves.
