ANC needs some introspection

-

The ANC in Johannesburg returned to power last week after it won the council vote by 137 to 101 and 30 from the DA and EFF respectively. This outcome shows that coalition government is not the way to go for this country, at least for now. They have proven to be very toxic, especially in relation to delivering services to the people.

The EFF has also shown to be too greedy in their negotiations as they want top positions for their support.

However, the ANC must not celebrate this moment for very long. They must instead work to gain the confidence of the people going to 2021. They must ensure that services to the people of Joburg are delivered without fail.

That’s what people care about. They want to see streetlights working, they want water, they want to live in a clean city, they want houses and safety communities and most importantly they want to see a clean government that will do away with corrupI tion and create more jobs.

If the ANC can do something about this in the remaining 18 months, they will retain Joburg in 2021.

Failure to this will make it difficult for the ANC in Gauteng to be relevant. They will be pushed to opposition benches where they have proven to be a failure.

They fail to come up with their own campaigns to resolve the many problems faced by the people.

To them, their existence is defined by their proximity to state power. In doing so, they fail to be a leader of society.

That is why it is important for the ANC in Gauteng and Johannesburg in particular, to try to redefine its programmes to remain relevant.
