Claiming from UIF is just impossible

I have tried to contact various departments but no one bothers to respond, writes Kevin McCarthy.

With reference to your article on UIF claims being paid, I beg to differ as I have been trying to claim UIF for the past three months.

I have been to the UIF offices on three occasions – Monday, 1 June was the last time – but the doors are closed. There are people inside the building who just ignore you and give no explanation for the shut doors.

There are hundreds of people outside but no one responds to them. All the people I spoke to have the same problem. When you telephone, nobody answers the phone and there are many numbers to call.

When you e-mail, nobody replies to your mail. When you try to register online, the system locks you out and the help desk doesn’t respond to your call or e-mail.

Every day on the news you see that the UIF is boasting how much money it is paying out. Who then is receiving this money if no one can claim?

I have tried to contact various departments throughout the country but no one bothers to respond. Where do you get your information from that says the UIF fund is paying out money to people?

If you are able to help thousands of people trying to claim, I would greatly appreciate it if you would let me know how, or let the minister of the UIF know that his fund is not working.
