Recovery plan on EU agenda

Brussels – Hungary’s and Poland’s opposition to Brussels’ oversight over the rule of law was to be top of the EU summit agenda yesterday, sidelining efforts to tackle the coronaviru­s epidemic.

EU member states had planned to share the lessons learned in the pandemic and discuss a strategy to prevent a third wave of infections.

This week Warsaw, Budapest and Slovenia blocked the adoption of the €1.8 trillion (about R33.1 trillion) recovery plan. –
