Strauss & Co’s November onlineauction is the company’s final sale of 2020 – and also its largest of the year on its digital platform, bringing a wealth of art, decorative arts, ceramics, furniture and fine wine to market just in time for the holiday season.

There’s something for everyone in the contemporary ceramics session, with both international and local works on offer, including Pablo Picasso’s editioned plate Corrida (Bullfi valued at estimates of R12 000 to R18 000, and Phumlani Nyawo’s classic Nguni Bull at an affordable estimated value of R2 000 to R3 000.

Hylton Nel, one of the star performers on the company’s recent North/South virtual live sale, is again represented with a quirky feline.

Blue Cat (valued at R15 000 to R20 000) is the standout piece among a few highly desirable bowls and plates from this idiosyncrat ic artist-potter. An array of portrait plates by Robert Hodgins, at starting bids ranging from R5 000 to R15 000, will tempt buyers who might have missed out on similar works on the earlier sale.

The fine wine session offers buyers a choice of local and international wines, with a six-bottle lot of Kanonkop’s iconic 2015 Paul Sauer (valued at R24 000 to R30 000), rated by wine guru Tim Atkin as one of the best Cape vintages, and a three-bottle lot of the full-bodied, silky 2005 Pauillac, from French Bordeaux vineyard Duhart-Milon (R6 000 to R7 000).

On sale are six bottles of iconic 2015 Paul Sauer
