Take a good view in Race 5 at Happy Valley

- Luke Middlebrook

Hong Kong – Quality four-yearold Good View Clarico is wellplaced to score third-up in the Class 3 1200m Handicap in Race 5 at Happy Valley today.

Good View Clarico is building a respectable record of three wins and as many thirds from his eight career starts to date and he enters this race off the back of two thirds down Sha Tin’s 1000m straight.

First up, Good View Clarico got well back in running before charging home late to miss by 0.50 lengths. He stepped out as favourite next time and went down by 0.75 lengths.

Good View Clarico looks ideally suited going up to 1200m this week and strikes a race lacking depth. His one run at Happy Valley last season, in which he crossed the line in seventh, can be forgiven, as he raced wide and without cover from the 700m that night.

Joao Moreira’s mount, Sky Show, should prove the main danger after failing badly last start as favourite. But he trialled well ahead of his return and is drawn ideally in barrier No 2.

Meanwhile in Race 7, facile laststart winner Classic Unicorn will be favoured to repeat the dose in the Class 2 1000m Handicap.

Classic Unicorn landed some good bets first-up, jumping $7.20 after hovering around 10-1 in the early markets. The four-time winner from eight races produced his usual tactical speed to cut across from barrier No 10 and never looked in doubt, dashing away to score easily by 1.75 lengths.

With racing on the C+3 course this week, that should suit Classic Unicorn’s front-running style down to a tee, but there are also some speedy types engaged, like Multimillion. Depending on how the race unfolds, Hong Kong Win looks to be camped just off their back and could pounce over the top late if good enough, while Explosive Witness will also relish a faster than average run race.
