Bucs have to find top gear

Orlando Pirates certainly didn’t have the smooth ride they may have anticipated when they were held to a 2-2 draw by Cape Town City in a DStv Premiership clash on Saturday.

This was the Buccaneers’ second consecutive draw, having shared the spoils 1-1 against Baroka FC the previous week.

However, Pirates head coach Josef Zinnbauer reckons his charges actually did pretty well to get a point.

“It was a good effort from the boys. We fought hard for this point, I think in a period of 20 minutes we should have scored more, but again, I think we fought hard to come back,” Zinnbauer told SuperSport TV.

The Bucs coach praised his side for the work they had done recently, and believed his charges could have done a lot more than they did in the match.

“We have a good squad, we have fighters, we have soldiers, so we just need to carry on fighting and something will eventually come up. There were lots of positives, we just have to bury our chances. Anyway, I think we are really doing well. We were fantastic today (Saturday), we created so many chances, but again, we have to bury them,” he added.

“If you don’t score then you can’t win a game. We had the tactical side of things 100% and the shape we needed. Also, it was never easy against City, we know they are a good team, especially in possession and in their defensive structyre.”

One thing is for certain, and Zinnbauer knows it all too well – Pirates will need to be far more lethal next weekend if they want to claim the MTN8 Cup against a very resilient Bloemfontein Celtic side.
