Fortunes changing for Bucs star
ZINNBAUER: HAILS THE BUCS ATTACKING MIDFIELDER FOR HIS TENACITY Makaringe asked the coach if he could stay out on the left wing from where the strike originated.
Josef Zinnbauer praised Fortune Makaringe for living up to the old adage “if you don’t succeed, try and try again”, as the Buccaneers attacking midfielder scored a wonderful winner in the 1-0 DStv Premiership victory over Bloemfontein Celtic on Tuesday.
“When you watch past games, you will see that Fortune always attempts to shoot that way,” said the Buccaneers head coach after Makaringe had weaved his way past several Celtic players, and drilled a low shot into the bottom corner.
“He just couldn’t seem to get it (a goal) like he did today. The goalkeeper might have been able to save it, it would have hit the post, and other times it would just go close to the goal. But yes, this is something he attempts often.”
Makaringe, meanwhile, explained that he had to ask the coach if he could stay on the left wing, the position from where he began his run that ended in the magical strike.
“It was a time where we needed to go at Celtic (attack). So the coach was telling me to move to the centre and to tell Figo (Linda Mntambo) to go to the right,” recalled Makaringe.
“I requested to please stay on the left and that he moved (Deon) Hotto to the right because…we needed someone who could take them on. I had to follow my instincts.” The result, though not exactly convincing against 10-man Celtic, lifted Pirates to third on the table, four points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, though
Masandawana have three games in hand.
“It was a difficult match for us, it was very tough. The performance was not so good,” added Zinnbauer.
“I think we all saw what was happening on the field, the players were very tired. We’ve played a lot of cup games in the Caf Confederation and the Nedbank Cup… But we are happy with three points.”
