APPRECIATION DAY: REMEMBER PEOPLE WHO CREATED GAMES YOU PLAY

- Citizen reporter

Revenue gained from gaming in 2020 set to top R2.3 trillion globally.

It’s International Game Master Appreciation Day today when we take some time to celebrate the dedicated individuals who spend countless hours crafting the world’s players adventure.

From describing detailed environments to taking on the roles of numerous non-player characters, they set the scene, adapt based on our choices (as unexpected as they may be) and hold the fate of many in their dice-filled hands.

While gaming has always been a popular pastime, even a career for some, over the last year it’s really come into its own, with more and more people who have never gamed before, taking it up.

This can largely be accredited to Covid-19 lockdowns, as many people turned to gaming as an option to overcome the monotony of day-to-day life. In fact, it’s predicted that the revenue gained from gaming in 2020 is set to top $159 billion (about R2.3 trillion) globally – a 9.3% growth from the previous year.

“The question is not always what game to play, but how to make gaming more exciting? It all comes down to the screen you’re playing on. Gamers are always looking for an immersive experience when playing their favourite games, and when it comes to how the visuals are depicted on the screen, an experience needs to be created,” explains Jaco Joubert, Skyworth TV brand manager.

Towards the end of last year, the brand launched the SXC9800, a premium television set with gaming-level specifications – at the same time announcing the latest addition to its high-end offering, Android 10.

All that comes with it includes Far Field; access to more content in the Google Play Store; improved hardware and speed; larger memory; AIoT; Cast Play; and Two-Way Bluetooth Transmission.

This is the third first, after Android and AI TV, that Skyworth has launched in SA, and is testament to their dedication to perfecting the smart home ecosystem, creating an all-inclusive and ultra-connected experience.

The SXC9800 performs video frame interpolation on a 120Hz 4K OLED screen, delivering an ultra-smooth and stutter-free visual experience, replicating a refresh rate similar to 240Hz.

With built-in Wi-Fi 5 hardware, users can seamlessly access the 120HZ 4K online videos.

So, what should you be doing to mark International Game Master’s Appreciation Day?

“Well, playing a game, of course,” says Joubert. “Whatever you do – whether it’s connecting online with other gamers or inviting a small group over to take part in some healthy competition – take a moment to remember there was someone hard at work creating the game you’re playing.”
