Leaks anger the ANC

- Citizen reporter

The ANC slammed the leak of audio recordings from the party’s NEC special meeting, which thrust the tensions within the party into the spotlight yet again.

The recordings emerged on social media, including the clip of what has been speculated to be former president Thabo Mbeki summarising concerns expressed by another national executive committee member, who called for a two- or three-day retreat to discuss the question: “Do we still have any organisation called the ANC?”

The former president also mentioned that ANC Women’s League leader Bathabile Dlamini and league secretary-general Meokgo Matuba told the gathering, on behalf of the league, that the “movement is about to collapse”.

ANC spokesman Pule Mabe said the orgainsation was “concerned about the growing tendency of leaking internal discussions of the organisation, including the implications of such a practice”. He said it was being done to divide the ANC, but also to “drive a particular narrative”.

Mabe highlighted that in terms of the ANC’s communication protocol it constituted misconduct. –
