Let funeral app do it

- Sipho Mabena

With technology continuing to advance at a rapid rate – and almost everything going mobile – the death industry was not to be left behind.

Dealing with the death of a loved is difficult enough and planning the send-off can prove even more stressful, which is why app developer, Sendoff, has come up with the Funeral App.

The app allows the user to plan an entire funeral, from choosing a casket or urn, to arranging flowers and transport to catering, from a mobile phone. “The app also has checklists detailing all the steps needed to properly plan a funeral and links to our website with a wealth of data around how to do anything related to a funeral,” Zolani Matebese, CEO of Sendoff, said.

He said the app was extremely easy to use and allowed users working in cities to plan a funeral or send a loved one’s body back to the rural areas.

Thabisile Sethaba, chief operating officer, said with the Covid-19 pandemic, the app cut out travel and contact, particularly for the elderly.

The app is available for arranging funeral services in Gauteng from this month in the Google Play store and from next month in the Apple, IOS and Huawei App Gallery stores. Sethaba said nationwide availability was expected in September.
