Mufasa is raring to Go

TOP FORM: MUFASA IMPRESSED IN HIS MAIDEN VICTORY AND SHOULD WIN AGAIN

- Muzi Yeni

Got The Greenlight in good space ahead of Durban July.

We are just a week away from the Vodacom Durban July and before we get on to today’s Turffontein card, I must make mention of the July draws and gallops that took place during the week.

I was extremely happy with Got The Greenlight’s gallop, which was outstanding. He gave me the feel that he has strengthened up even further and he is really in a good space, so it’s all positive from my side.

I am not too concerned about his No 14 draw as I would prefer not to be caught up in the scrimmage for position in the early stages.

All the major players seem to have put up good gallops and all looked very well within themselves so it’s going to be a great spectacle.

The Computaform is out, and the studying has already started so here’s hoping we can guide punters into making money this week to spend on next week’s sensational meeting.

Racing today takes place on the Standside track at Turffontein and we have a nine-race card to preview.

Race 5, a MR 104 Handicap over 1600m, is the headliner and it’s a small but competitive field.

The majority of the races have smallish fields but after analysing this card, it’s definitely a lot harder than one would have expected.

I have eight rides and I am hoping to be competitive and get a few winners on the board to continue the lovely run we are on.

Race 1 is a Juvenile Plate over 1160m and I ride Blizzard Ahead who ran well on debut before disappointing last time. He comes off a rest and I’m hoping he can come back to his debut run and hopefully run into the money.

But Mufasa was very impressive on debut and will take all the beating. I expect him to win again, and he is my best bet on the card.

Green Taffety was also impressive, but she is taking on the colts and in my opinion that is not easy, but she is the main danger.

Race 2 is a Juvenile Plate for fillies over 1160m and I ride Cocoa Hill who won her latest start, but again will have to improve further to win.

Warren Kennedy has chosen Freed From Desire, so that warrants respect. Kwazzi’s Lady has been disappointing in her last two but she must not be ignored while Bold Act drops in distance but is promising and must be included.

Race 3 is a Maiden Plate over 1400m and Mitch Got His Wish will take all the beating.

Platinum Sky will definitely improve on his debut run and must be respected while Top Wesselton and Gandalf The Bay are others to consider.

Race 4 is a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1400m and I ride Fort Snow, a filly battling to win a maiden but who always runs an honest race.

Once again, we will be hoping for her to run into the money but I make this a race between a pair of two-year-olds.

Abalus is my first choice, and she will enjoy the Standside track. She sets the standard after a good last run while her main danger is Bureau Des Legende who is also very progressive and has some lovely form for a maiden.

These two horses should get you through all bets.

Race 5 is a MR 104 Handicap over 1600m and I ride Dark Tide, who has a winning chance off a light weight. He is in good form and another good run is expected.

My main danger is Indlamu, who looks very promising and could be better than his rating suggests. Rock The Globe is another with a massive chance off his light weight and good draw.

These horses should fight out the finish.

Race 6 is a Progress Plate over 1600m and I ride Gee For Go who I make the runner to beat, despite taking on the colts. She is joint best-weighted runner and is doing very well at home.

As a result, I have made her my value bet on the card.

Sound Of Summer and Kingsley’s Heart are my main dangers.

Race 7 is a MR 90 Handicap over 2000m and I ride Tyrus Express, who is ultra-consistent. Even though this is a very competitive field, he has a chance of winning.

In my opinion a winning case can be made for every runner so I would go as wide as possible, but if Ushuaia comes back to his best, he is the horse to beat.

Lord Melbourne won well last time and can follow up as a danger.

Race 8 is a MR 93 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1400m and I ride Lee Express who won very well last time. She looks well above average and off a great draw and a light weight will be right there.

Chloris ran behind me last time but meets us again under more favourable weight conditions and rates our main danger, while Spice Market and Freedom Seeker must be included in all bets.

Race 9 is a MR 76 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1400m and I ride Aflame, who is in good form and is working well at home. We are expecting another good run here and she must be included in all bets.

Stable companions Galaxy Raiders and Bella Rosa are two horses who will be right there and are no doubt the main dangers along with Mamaquera who should also contest the finish.
