Lexus ticks all the boxes

WITH THE UX250H, YOU ARE INVESTING IN A CAR THAT WILL LAST YOU A LIFETIME

- Shaun Holland

It has electric motor powered by battery and petrol engine working alongside it.

Ihave been in a long term relationship with a very reliable Toyota Tazz – 16 years to be exact. This car has never let me down and for this reason I will forever be a fan of the Toyota brand. Now, in case you guys don’t know, Lexus is the sister company of Toyota and they sell what I like to call luxury Toyotas – because just like Toyota, Lexus sells reliable and quality vehicles. When I was given the opportunity to test the 2022 Lexus UX250H with the F-Sport styling package, I welcomed it with open arms because I have never driven a Lexus before. I was keen to see if it lived up to my bias standards.

When the car arrived in “Redline” red, I was taken aback by the styling because this was my first time seeing this compact crossover vehicle.

The rear lights add to the appeal of this ride and the front bumper gives it a very sporty look – but the seats and the interior take the cake for me.

The sheer quality of the interior is exactly why Toyota won me over and Lexus has proved that they know how to take up the styling a notch by giving you that little extra with the F-Sport package. The dashboard and consoles are all covered in leather, giving that extra touch of class.

The fully electric F-Sport seats are just as amazing. They are heated and cooled – whether it’s hot or cold, you can choose the ideal option for your bottom.

Another impressive feature is the air-conditioning. I had never been in a car with such a powerful aircon. It’s like I was outside feeling a cold wind blow through my hair on a hot summer’s day.

The UX250h F-Sport has one of the easiest and most interactive media systems I’ve ever used. I love the “laptop-like” trackpad on the centre console that you use to navigate around your media interface. Everything feels like it’s centred around the driver and placed exactly where you would expect it to be.

The media system is well calibrated with the hybrid system and it shows you all the information you need to know about your charge levels and which motor you are running off.

For those wondering what the H in UX250H stands for, it is for “hybrid”. Yes, this car has a hybrid system, paired with the 2.0 litre petrol engine, which gives you quite a bit of vooma when you need it.

This hybrid car has an electric motor that is powered by a battery and it also has the petrol engine that works alongside it. It is so much fun to drive this car because it feel so interactive.

I often found myself trying to use the electric motor as much as possible and I drove like a very law-abiding citizen, to build up the charge in the battery. My goal was to get the battery to full charge but during my week with the car I was unable to accomplish it because you are not able to turn off the EV mode. The car has a mind of its own when it comes to which motor it uses.

I had a great time driving this hybrid vehicle, which certainly lived up to the high standards that I expected from Lexus. At a starting price of R883 500, you are investing in something that will last you a lifetime.
