Lim's Kosciuszko to be tested over 1600m

- Luke Middlebrook

A classy Kranji Stakes A race over 1600m on turf is the highlight on the 11-race card at Kranji tomorrow. That race sees rising star Lim's Kosciuszko back in action, in search of an eighth straight win.

The unbeaten four-year-old boasts an unblemished record of seven from seven with winning distances from 1200m to 1400m since making his debut in April last year.

In that time, the Daniel Meagher-trained gelding has become the eighth highest rated horse at Kranji and there is no sign that he is going to stop climbing the ladder.

Most recently, the son of Kermadec smashed the class record of Class 2 over 1200m in 1:08.65 seconds.

Trying 1600m for the first time is obviously the biggest ask for the star on the rise this week, but oozing class over his rivals holds him in good stead.

A great each-way play may present itself in trainer David Kok’s resuming five-year-old, Win Win.

Win Win has not been seen for 308 days and was racing without much luck – but still performing well – in his last few starts. In three of his last five runs, he raced wide throughout while three starts ago, he was checked late passing the 200m.

At his most recent outing, he outperformed his handicap rating when a good fourth in a quality Novice race.

Importantly, he resumes off a gelding operation, which could spark improvement going off a recent impressive barrier trial win in slick time on 17 March.

Meanwhile, trainer Tim Fitzsimmons has assumed control on the championship ladder with 14 wins for the season, a two-win advantage over the improving Michael Clements yard.

For the jockeys, Manoel Nunes (suspended this week) has surged clear by a margin, boasting a 12win lead over Danny Beasley, 28 to 16.
