For me, my arrest is victory – Chicco

- Citizen Reporter

Musician Sello “Chicco” Twala, who is facing charges of “pointing something that resembles a firearm” and common assault, was yesterday granted R2 000 bail in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court.

The alleged incident took place at Bloubosrand on Sunday, when two City Power technicians attended to a call of a power outage in the area, said NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane.

She said the case was postponed until 26 August.

According to Joburg’s MMC for environment and infrastructure service department Michael Sun, power needed to be temporarily cut to a wider area so the technicians could work on the faults.

“While the technicians were working, a Bloubosrand resident approached one technician and threatened him with violence should the team continue with their work,” he said.

“The resident went on to attack the technician and pointed a cocked pistol to his head to force him to stop working.”

Meanwhile, Twala appeared to celebrate his arrest: “Finally, I got arrested for pointing a toy gun to two men whom I thought were cable thieves who caused a blackout to six houses at my recording studio,” Twala said in a statement.

“For me, my arrest is victory to me and defeat to all evil people who portray me as a Mafia who is behind the Senzo Meyiwa’s killing (sic). My arrest is proof that I’m not above the law and I can be arrested if any person lays criminal charges against me. No one is above the law... Haters on social media claim that I bribed judges, police, including Beggie (sic) Cele, whom I don’t even know to protect my son who is accused by haters of killing Senzo Meyiwa...”
