The Citizen (Gauteng)

SA’s not the most beautiful country in world

The decay, filth and vandalism in our cities is despicable, writes

- Bob Gillies.

Ms Ridyard, you are seriously misguided describing South Africa as the most beautiful country in the world (fact). What facts?

Are you living in South Africa? Have you seen the decay and filth in our cities?

The train stations reduced to rubble? The slums in our World Class City of Gold, our vandalised schools, overgrown parks, potholed roads, dysfunctional robots and street lights and a hundred other shameful examples?

Sure South Africa is the most unequal country in the world when you see what a basic member of parliament earns, compared to a pensioner.

The ANC over the years has engineered this gap – keep the people poor and you can manage them easier.

There are many countries in the world with millions of poor but they don’t resort to the levels of crime we have.

They may be poor but they are not nations of criminals, which is what we have.

I don’t know where you got your idea of SA’s extraordinary beauty but it makes me believe you live elsewhere and have not travelled much.
