DA must tell SA of Ukraine racism

- Des du Triou

So, flagman John Steenhuisen of Democratic Alliance (DA) fame dashed off to the Ukraine on a factfinding mission following in the footsteps of Boris Johnson, Antony Blinken and others.

Hell, if John had bothered to phone an old DA codger like myself, I’d have advised him to buy a copy of the New York Times or Washington Post or watch CNN, all the facts you can handle. Save a bundle in money.

Anyway, he is where he is. Now, while gathering facts, he must interview the thousands of black refugees fleeing the war.

Those treated like dirt by Ukrainian military officials, Polish and Hungarian border guards.

As shown live on BBC news, on Monday. Interviews with the desperate; a surgeon, doctor, women with babies told to walk to the border, places on buses for Ukrainian whites only. Blatant racism.

Bring that truth home, John. You may swing a few extra votes.

The time for excuses is over. Private sector expertise should be optimally used to reopen the CMJH casualty as soon as possible.

Democratic Alliance shadow health MEC Jack Bloom says it is appalling the health department missed the deadline to reopen the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital casualty unit.
