China reacts to Covid criticism

Beijing – China’s censors scrambled to wipe out online debate over its zero-Covid strategy yesterday after the World Health Organisation (WHO) criticised the country’s hardline approach.

Those restrictions have trapped most of Shanghai’s 25 million people in a lockdown while Beijing has also corralled many of its residents indoors. WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Tuesday said it “will not be sustainable”. –
