Old SA flag represents dark time

-

Why any person, especially AfriForum, waste their time and good money to treasure, protect or display an outdated, dull and boring flag, I find mind-boggling.

Yes, it’s just an old flag, but it’s a reminder of many bad memories to many people.

Why do they always have to be reminded of these horrible times by some.

I think it shows insensitivity, total disrespect and disregard towards all people of colour as it will always represent a very dark time of white supremacy, oppression and racial discrimination against the majority of South Africans.

Wounds can and will never heal if we don’t stop this nonsense now. South Africa cannot afford division any longer.

This old flag should find its final resting place in private places, museums, the Voortrekker Monument and the likes as a historical symbol only – and banned in public. The less people hear of or see it, the better for everyone.

Rather embrace the present and work together in unity with a specific goal towards a better SA for all and a future for our children. We cannot do it when some still have nostalgia over “the good old days”.

Remember, it was only good for a minority who benefitted from a bad system that suppressed the majority of South Africans. Let it go, once and for all. Marianne Barnard, Durban
