Holland claims top award

HONOURED: TRIPLE TIARA WINNER NAMED HIGHVELD’S HORSE OF THE SEASON

It came as no surprise when Rain In Holland was announced Highveld Horse Of The Season at a function held at Melrose Arch on Saturday night. The three-year-old daughter of Duke Of Marmalade has been a revelation this season, winning all three legs of the Wilgerbosd­rift Triple Tiara as well as the Grade 2 Gerald Rosenburg Stakes against older horses.

She is trained by Sean Tarry and is bred by Drakenstei­n Stud.

Tarry played tribute to the filly. “She is a true profession­al and easy to work with. I would also like to thank Gaynor Rupert who is a pleasure to train for.

“There is no pressure, and she leaves you alone to get on with your job.”

Drakenstei­n was also named as Champion Owner.

Rain In Holland also unopposed in the Champion Three-Year-Filly category.

The rest of the night belonged to trainer Paul Peter and runners from his yard. He was named Champion Trainer while Equine Awards went to Maharanee, Master Archie, MK’s Pride and Astrix. Master Archie, winner of the Grade 1 Computafor­m Sprint claimed two awards, Champion Three-Year-Old Colt/Gelding and Champion Sprinter.

The Awards are presented by the Racehorse Owners Associatio­n. The judges for the Equine Awards were Robert Garner, Nico Kritsiotis and Jack Milner. The master of ceremonies for the evening was Alistair Cohen.
