Good rides for Khathi

- Jack Milner

Jockey Robert Khathi has the opportunity to increase his tally of winners at Hollywoodbets Greyville today as he has picked up some very decent rides.

Two of them are for trainer Andre Nel who has been giving Khathi a number of choice rides recently while the third is for Yogas Govender.

Racing is on the Polytrack and the best of his rides comes up in Race 1 where he is aboard Nel-trained Captain Corrupt in this Maiden Plate over 1400m.

The Erupt colt did not show much in his first three starts which were in the Western Cape, but he came alive in his first attempt in KwaZulu-Natal when he raced over this course and distance. He didn’t start well, taking a couple of awkward strides after 200m, but once he found his feat, Captain Corrupt ran on well to run fourth, but beaten just 0.85 lengths behind Word For Word.

In third place was L’Ultimo, who finished 0.40 lengths ahead of Nel’s charge, but with the experience under his belt and the advantage of jumping from No 1 draw as opposed to L’Ultimo’s No 8 barrier, Captain Corrupt looks hard to beat.

Khathi and Nel could double up in Race 3, a Maiden Plate over 1800m, with Dontstopmenow. The Gimmethegreenlight gelding looked all at sea on debut but came on nicely in his second start when trying more ground.

This will be his first run on the Polytrack and that is the only concern because he has lots of room for improvement.

Finally, Big Slick is back home and Govender’s charge will love getting back on the Polytrack where he is unbeaten in two starts. He was not far back in the Ready To Run Sales race at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth and could make it three from three on the poly.
