We think Sebolai will walk – defence
JUDGMENT: MONDAY IS D-DAY FOR DJ ‘DONALD DUCK’ Judge Moosa’s announcement regarding the postponement lasted only three minutes.
Murder accused Donald Sebolai’s defence team said yesterday it remained very confident about its case. Sebolai is accused of stabbing to death his girlfriend, Dolly Tshabalala, at his Jabulani flat in Soweto last year. Speaking after the judgment was postponed in the South Gauteng High Court, sitting in Palm Ridge yesterday, defence attorney Pule Pule said while they did not want to prejudge, had it already been Monday, he would have given more details why they are confident.
“I just really think that today’s proceedings were just a postponement, but come the day, justice will be shown.
“My client is equally confident. The simple thing to do for an accused is to show that there is no proof beyond reasonable doubt that he has committed a crime. We really feel that he will walk ... we will be back on Monday and we will have a lot to say at that time,” a confident-looking Pule said.
Judge Cassim Moosa did not waste time as his announcement regarding the postponement lasted about three minutes. “Following a discussion that the court had with counsels for the state and the defence, it was agreed that judgment be postponed to next week Monday,” he said.
The announcement shocked some seated in the court gallery, particularly the family and friends of the deceased.
Sebolai, dressed in a grey suit, appeared calm when he arrived at court, as well as after he left. The accused, who wiped up blood with a mop before leaving the crime scene in the deceased’s car, is also facing charges of defeating the administration of justice, as well as theft of a motor vehicle.
