Temperatures likely to rise
Temperatures are expected to soar again after cool to warm weather conditions over the past few days in parts of the country.
There was a heatwave in some northeastern parts of the country yesterday.
Forecaster at the SA Weather Service Bransby Bulo said the extremely hot weather conditions were likely to continue, at least until Tuesday, when the heatwave was set to break.
Provinces that will be hit by the heatwave include Gauteng, North West, Limpopo and the Mpumalanga lowveld.
In Pretoria, the expected maximum temperature today is 36 C, increasing to 37 C as the weekend progresses.
Temperatures in Johannesburg and Vereeniging are expected to reach highs of between 33 C and 34 C.
In Limpopo, Lephalale is set to reach highs of 39 C and in Thabazimbi it is likely to be 37 C.
“Temperatures could also hit the 40 C mark over the weekend,” Bulo said.
There was a 30% chance of isolated showers in Gauteng and there might be severe thunderstorms in KwaZulu-Natal.
“We are giving it a 60% chance of showers and thundershowers for the western parts of KZN this week and 30% for the remaining parts,” said the forecaster, optimistically.
