Let’s ride!

MONEY RAISED GOES TOWARDS NON-PROFIT ORGANISATIONS Gear up and get your cleats on, it’s almost time for the ever popular Carnival City Macsteel National Cycle Classic on February 21.

-

eld two weeks before the Argus Cycle Tour, the Carnival City Macsteel National Cycle Classic is a Cycling South Africa sanctioned event which attracts thousands of entries every year.

This year is the 32nd edition and promises to be bigger and better than ever.

The road race comprises a 121km route for the Elite Men and Licensed Vets ( aged 30 to 49).

The customary route for the 103km and 65km road races will remain. Licensed under-16 boys can enter the 103km event. Online entries are open on championchip. co.za until Monday.

The entry fees are R280 for the 121km event, R270 for the 103km event, and R190 for the 65km event. Once again, ChampionChip will be used to provide accurate timing and results for this event.

All cyclists, including licensed cyclists, are required to make use of a ChampionChip. Those cyclists that do not have a chip can purchase one with their entry.

Race organisers receive no financial benefit from this event and all proceeds will go to Rotary Community Projects, the Rotary Foundation, Germiston Wheelers Charity Projects and the development of amateur cycling in South Africa.

The event starts and ends at Carnival City where there is plenty of secure parking, a selection of restaurants and fast food outlets, and activities for children.

“We are excited to once again support and play host to the Carnival City Macsteel National Classic Cycle Race,” says Carnival City’s marketing manager, Michelle Smith.

“A ‘ride for charity’ event, all proceeds will be donated to deserving non-profit organisations and community projects.

“This is a popular event in the cycling community and it is fantastic to see how support for the race grows each year.

“If you aren’t entering the race, bring your family down to Carnival City to watch the cyclists cross the finish line,” Smith said.
