Cavin praises his players

Platinum Stars coach Cavin Johnson has hailed his team’s collective effort for their good run in the Absa Premiership this season.

Dikwena are currently fi fth on the league table with 30 points, winning eight of their last 17 matches, drawing six and losing three league matches.

Their most recent victory came at the expense of Polokwane City, whom they beat 3-0 at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium last Sunday.

“I have a good structure of backroom staff and management also believes in what we are doing,” said Johnson (above). “The team’s performance has been due to the collective work by all involved at the club. It shows that with a little bit of hard work in training and pushing yourself all the time, you are going to succeed.”

Today, the Rustenburg side visit Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium. The Team of Choice is coached by Ernst Middendorp, who has been brought in to rescue the team who find themselves at the bottom with eight points from 17 matches.

But Johnson is expecting a tough challenge from the opposition.

“We are going there to put on a fight and hopefully we are able to play our football. We know we are in for a big fight when we are going to play Maritzburg. We can see they are a formidable team.”

As much as the game is vital for United to get a win, having last registered a victory in November against the University of Pretoria, Johnson also needs maximum points to stay safe at the top half of the standings, with Ajax Cape Town, Bloemfontein Celtic, Chippa United, and Orlando Pirates right on their tail.
