Women the ‘rocks’ of nation

As we approach the end of the Women’s Month, let’s remember that women are precious and must be respected and honoured every day of the year. Women are basically the foundation of a striving nation.

A nation without a strong foundation is a weak and shaky nation. To build a strong, progressive and successful nation, we need a strong foundation.

That is where our wonderful women, the “rocks” (imbokodo) come in as mothers of the nation. A nation built on a strong rock foundation will never be shaken.

Women play a crucial role in moulding a successful nation.

Women are the glue that holds families together and ensure that children grow up to be responsible citizens for the benefit of the country and world.

Women also provide the moral fibre crucial for a peaceful and respectful nation, which plays a major role in creating a better world for the benefit of all.

As we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the women’s march against the oppressive pass system, we need to remember that the women who participated in the march put their lives at risk for the democratic benefits we all enjoy today. This shows that women are selfless and always put the future of their families ahead of everything else.

Women are the ones facing the most hard- ships. They are at the coalface of all the challenges faced by families and the nation.

Women are real “rocks”, as they always confront and deal with the challenges and pressures facing their families, communities and the nation at large.

Strong women always conquer challenges and those are the women who ensures the nation succeeds.

Currently, the country is experiencing its worst drought in decades and women are the ones who must always ensure that families have access to water.

Water is life and women are the ones doing everything possible, even putting their lives at risk, to ensure that their families have access to the source of life.

In rural areas, women go the extra mile collecting water in dangerous streams and rivers.

Let us protect our women from the dangers associated with sourcing water by protecting the water infrastructure from vandalism and theft, thus ensuring that our precious women no longer have to go to the dangerous rivers.

Let us embrace our wonderful women, who are the foundation of a successful nation, and ensure that we always do best to ensure that they enjoy the fruits of our democracy.

The government is doing its part with its programmes and institutions but it is upon us to meet the government halfway and ensure a better life for the wonderful women of our country.

Let us honour and embrace the foundation of our nation.
