17 nominated for interim SABC board

-

Seventeen people have been nominated for the interim SABC board.

This after a recommendation from an SABC inquiry that the previous board be formally dissolved.

At present, there is no board in place.

Political parties have put forward the names of people they think should serve on the new board.

The list is a mixture of veteran journalists, former board members and professionals.

According to the SABC’s report, The African National Congress has proposed former South African National Editors’ Forum (Sanef) executive director Mathatha Tsedu, former SABC board members Krish Naidoo and Rachel Kalidass.

Suspended Citizen editor Steven Motale also features on the list, as does David Nidrie, Febe Potgieter-Ngqubule, Sulungeka Dazana and Khanyisile Kweyama.

The Democratic Alliance has on its part nominated former Sanef chairperson Mpumelelo Mkhabela as well as John Mattison, Tanja Bosch, Jack Devnrain and Michael Markovitz.

Congress of the People has put forward the names of Dumile Mateza, Xolisa Mbeqeka, Pearl Luthuli and Moses Moraladi.

Meanwhile, the committee hopes to reduce the list through negotiations.

It’s expected that the debate over the final shortlist of five interim board members may happen next week. – Citizen reporter
