Anton and Joe can keep walking

- Jack Milner

On Classic Day at Turffontein Joe Soma-trained Walker was all the rage to win the second race on the card over 1400m. Many of his supporters were delighted to watch him hold off the attentions of first-timer Brave Nomad from the Sean Tarry yard but sadly for his supporters, Walker carried Brave Nomad inwards almost the entire width of the course.

The stipendiary stewards objected and it came as little surprise when the result was reversed. However, many of Walker’s supporters have been waiting for his return to the track and he is back at Turffontein on Monday when racing will be on the Inside track. It could be significant that Anton Marcus has opted to come to Turffontein and try and right the unfortunate episode.

He contests Race 4, a Maiden Plate over 1450m, and looks far better than any of the runners with exposed form.

The son of Warm White Night will be hot favourite to win this race, especially as Brave Nomad came out again and franked the form with a second win.

However, once again Tarry is waiting in the wings with another beautifully bred debutant Royal Pursuit, who could upset the odds. He is by Silvano and one will need to keep an eye on the betting.

However, that still could make Walker a Pick 6 banker because even if Royal Pursuit does beat him, Soma’s runner will still count.
