SHOT LEFT: EXPERIENCE THE BEST OF THE WEST

- Kgosi Modisane

A four-day adrenaline adventure experience

If you and I are anything alike and the sounds of roaring engines gushing with torque and the thrill of turbulence leave you with the zest for the next rush, boy do I have something for you. Imagine a holiday experience which leaves you gazing at wonders of nature from a bird’s eye view or captivates your imagination at such an intense speed it seems almost too good to be true.

Let’s say you have somehow found yourself with an access of funds in the bank as well as a limited amount of leave days, what could you possibly do to take the load off, before getting back to the gruelling boardroom meetings? Step into the express lane and relive the best of the coast regardless of which ocean borders it.

I recently got the opportunity to witness the best of Cape Town in under a week. From an exciting ride through Camps Bay and Cape Point to an executive helicopter tour over the largest mountain in the Sadac region, jumping off Signal Hill with only a piece of string and faith in a stranger not to kill you mid-air; to tasting a worldclass gin made in Mzansi. All this while finding time to also attend one of the biggest Jazz festivals in the world – The Cape Town International Jazz Festival.

DAY 1: HD CHAUFFEUR RIDES AND TOURS BIKERS CLUB

Upon arrival at the airport, I was welcomed with a glass of bubbles and cheese or was it biltong and juice by the team from South African Tourism. We made our way to the Capital Mirage hotel, located in the heart of the CBD, overlooking the Bo-Kaap district as well as Green Point Stadium. This three-level hotel was just fitting for the occasion as the rooms were the perfect blend of self-catering and hospitality as well as sophistication. Fitted with both washing and drying machines, for those guests who might have packed the wrong garb, the hotel also offers complimentary laundry services for guests.

Having checked in, I was lured out by the raging sounds of Harley Davison bikes from the HD Chauffeur Rides and Tours bikers club, who took us sightseeing while enjoying the Harley. Our destination started with a convoy drive through Camps Bay with pit stops at Chapmans Peak and finally a drive past Pollsmoor Maxium Security prison in Tokai, before returning to the hotel for dinner.

DAY 2: CAPE TOWN HELICOPTERS

With strict instructions to be in the shuttle by 9am, nobody in the bus had a clue to what would transpire. Just off the Cape Harbour is well-known tourist helicopter ride Cape Town Helicopters. It was here that we would have a grand time sightseeing all the best of the mother city’s finest houses and winelands. Taking off east of Robben Island, giving you a scenic landscape view of Table Mountain and Signal Hill, this ride is breathtaking.
