Mokhethi aims to test himself in Premiership
At 26, Koloko Mokhethi (right) feels he is no longer a youngster and that he should now be establishing himself in the Absa Premiership, as he has a burning desire to play for Bafana Bafana.
The FC Cape Town defender has previously tasted life in the country’s elite league and now wants more.
Mokhethi started his professional career at African Warriors and has previously had stints at Bloemfontein Celtic and Golden Arrows.
“I feel I have matured enough now and should be testing myself against the big boys in the Premiership,” he said yesterday.
“I think the time has come for me to play there. Not that I am demeaning the standard in the National First Division, but I think I have outgrown this division. I deserve to be playing top division football now.”
He is, however, committed to helping the African Beasts avoid relegation before even contem- plating offers from Premiership teams.
“We had a slow start which is now proving detrimental to our campaign,” he said of African Beasts, who are in 13th place with 28 points, just three ahead of 15th-placed Magesi after 26 matches. The team will face promotion hopefuls in their last four matches but Mokhethi is not worried. In fact, he is sure they will survive.
“If you look at our statistics, they will show we have done better against the form teams and struggled against those in the bottom half of the table,” he revealed.
