Decathlon star has had enough
National decathlon record holder Willem Coertzen called time on his career yesterday.
“It’s been a great adventure in my life with so many memories that’s absolutely priceless,” Coertzen said in a statement on social media.
A former African Championships silver medallist, he retired with a South African best of 8 398 points.
Having struggled with injuries over the last few years, the 34-year-old athlete took second place with in his final appearance at a meeting in Kladno last week. – Wesley Botton
