Top sires represente­d at KwaZulu-Natal Yearling Sale

Casinos and horse sales - a strange fit but one which seems to work - and tomorrow Sibaya, north of Durban, host the annual KwaZulu-Natal Yearling Sale at which 276 lots will come under the hammer.

The order of play is that lots 1-150 will be sold tomorrow (noon start) with lots 151 to 276 being offered on Friday with the same starting time.

There’s been some notable graduates from this sale including Triple Crown winner Louis The King, dual Grade 1 winner Same Jurisdicti­on and the talented Happy Valentine.

The majority of the country’s top sires are represente­d including Dynasty, Captain Al, Gimmethegr­eenlight, Silvano and Var.

First crop sires are also well represente­d with the likes of What A Winter, Crusade, Twice Over, The Apache, Where’s That Tiger, The Assayer, Master Of My Fate, Noble Tune, Pomodoro, Jackson, Redoute’s Promise and Potala Palace giving buyers a wide choice when it comes to stallions.

To that list you can add Duke Of Marmalade who is the sire of Big Orange, the gallant winner of last week’s epic Ascot Gold Cup. Also there’s the progeny of Ato, winner of the Krisflyer Sprint in Singapore.

The big carrot for buyers is graduates immediatel­y qualify for the 2018 KZN Yearling Sale Million which will be run on July Day next year.

Lot 217: Captain Al colt out of winning half-sister to Grade 2 winner Hidden Beauty from the family of Cape Guineas’ victor, William Longsword.

Lot 67: Crusade colt out of a winning daughter of Dynasty from the family of champion Jamaica.

Lot 92: Crusade colt, closely inbred to Storm Cat, is out of a winning sister to four winners from the family of Scented Royal.

Lot 25: Duke Of Marmalade filly who is a half-sister to two winners including Grade 3 winner, One Cool Dude.

Lot 189: Gimmethegr­eenlight filly who is a half-sister to two winners from the family of Grade 1 winner and sire, Bigstone.

Lot 225: Dynasty filly and she’s a full-sister to Taipan out of a daughter of Grade 2 winner, Tarn Fairy.

Lot 14: Great Britain colt who is a full-brother to Queen Laurie out of Grade 3 winner, Maggie Kay.

Lot 178: Ideal World filly a halfsister to a winner from the family of Grade 1 winner, Bull Valley.

Lot 184: Jackson colt out of a winning half-sister to four winners from the family of Harry Hotspur and Kiss Of Peace.

Lot 18: Judpot colt who is a half-brother to eight winners including globetrott­ing Tiza, the winner of seven stakes races.

Lot 182: Mambo In Seattle colt bred on the same cross as dual Grade 1 winner, Same Jurisdicti­on.

Lot 153: Master Of My Fate colt out of winning half-sister to Met winner, Martial Eagle from the family of Divine Jet.

Lot 22: Mogok filly who is a fullsister to Hong Kong winner, Monsieur Mogok. He is bred on the same cross as The Apache.

Lot 29: Oratorio colt a halfbrothe­r to three winners including Grade 2 Selangor Cup victor, Hard Day’s Night.

Lot 147: Philanthro­pist filly a full-sister to a winner and halfsister to four other winners including Doing It For Dan.

Lot 42: Redoute’s Promise colt out of Grade 2 Fillies Guineas third, Paint The Town, whose winning siblings include Mike’s Choice and Maelstrom.

Lot 85: Silvano filly out of sixtime Grade 3 winner, She’s A Stunner.

Lot 188: Toreador colt out of winning half-sister to Oaks placed, Patchit Up Baby.

Lot 241: Twice Over colt out of winning daughter of US champion sire, Tapit.

Lot 70: Var filly who is a halfsister to KZN Million winner, Lunar Rush, out of a Grade 3 mare who won eight races.

Lot 223: Where’s That Tiger filly out of a half-sister to two stakes winners including Grade 1 Happy Archer.
